How many therapists will be working with my child?

A child will be assigned to an AM and a PM therapist if they are full-time. When therapists are out for the day, a therapist who is on the same team and knows the child, will work with the child.  When a child is ready to work on responding to new or novel people, they will be assigned to a new therapist in either the AM or PM.  The BCBA will discuss any planned changes in monthly parent meetings.  Our online data collection system, Rethink provides a parent portal, to enable parents to see who is working with their child and what targets are being worked on in real time.

What sort of training do your therapists receive?

The initial therapist training includes 40 hours of modules with shadowing opportunities between modules. The BCBA assigned to the new staff will provide ongoing training with each client they are assigned to and will provide ongoing feedback and assistance.  BAT has ongoing training levels developed to provide professional development and more in depth knowledge of ABA.

How often?

The 40 hour modules take place in the first 2 weeks of employment. The ongoing training is daily or weekly as needed. Registered Behavior Technicians receive 5% of their scheduled hours as supervised time by their BCBA.

How do you manage safety concerns?

Safety is the utmost importance to BAT.  We plan safety well before opening our centers and have regular safety maintenance, updates, drills, and training.  Our centers are locked down so that anyone entering is permitted in as a known guest.  We have regular fire and emergency drills, as well as routine external safety audits by local fire departments and other service providers.  Cameras are used for an additional form of safety.  BAT performs national background screens of all employees and initial and random drug screens. Routine check of equipment, toys, buildings and materials are performed daily and more formally on a quarterly basis.  If any safety concerns arise, the concern should be given to a staff’s direct supervisor, or parents may present concerns to the Center and Community Coordinator or their assigned BCBA. Safety concerns are reviewed and addressed immediately.  All safety concerns are sent to the President of BAT.

What does a typical ABA session look like?

Every ABA session is individualized for every client.  No two are the same.

How do you determine goals for my child?

Goals are determined by the initial assessment performed by the BCBA who creates an Individual Treatment Plan for every client.  Parent interviews, biopsychosocial documents, and reinforcer profiles are also completed by caregivers to understand their goals and history of services, education, medical, and other needs of the client. Do you consider input from parents? We see parents and caregivers as the “expert” of their child.  We insist on ongoing feedback, participation, and communication with families. BAT creates a team for the child with our staff (BCBA, OT, SLP, RBT,) along with the family, educators, medical professionals and any other service provider to provide excellence in a comprehensive treatment package and to facilitate appropriate transition planning.

How often do you re-evaluate goals?

Most assessments are performed every six months; however, the BCBAs are continuously updating treatment plans, providing Behavior Consultation, and constant evaluation of needs and goals.

How is progress evaluated?

 Formalized and standardized assessments are initially used to gain a baseline of strengths and deficits and then used for ongoing evaluation to develop the next set of goals.  The assessments selected are based on age and skill level for every client.

How many hours per week can you provide?

We provide part-time and full-time services for ABA therapy, along with Behavior Consultation, OT, and Speech (when position is filled).  Not every child we assess will require full-time.  The BCBAs will determine the amount of treatment medically necessary for the individual’s best outcomes and progress.

Do you have a wait list?

We do not have a waitlist at either location.

What type of insurance do you accept?

Please see list on our website.  We accept most private fully funded (ABA will be covered under the Indiana Mandate) and self-funded (Specific companies choose to provide a Benefit Exception for their employees to cover ABA.  Self-funded policies do not have to cover ABA unless the employers selects it) insurances, as well as Medicaid, grants, and state funding such as Children’s Special Healthcare Services.  We do have private pay options as well. BAT works with families to blend and recommend additional funding sources to reduce the out of pocket costs.

How do I get services for my child?

Contact our professional Center Operations Directors who will walk with you through each step of the insurance and enrollment process.  We always work with families to find multiple funding options to reduce costs.

What do I need to get started?

1. Begin with a call to the center of your choice.

2. Then, you will complete an initial inquiry form to get the latest information for ABA coverage with your policy.

3. Next, our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) will request an authorization to assess your child to determine amount of services needed and create an individualized treatment plan to accompany the comprehensive authorization packet.

4. The packet is sent to your primary physician for signature and then to insurance for final approval.

5. As soon as we receive approval, we will begin ABA therapy for your child and regular parent meetings (every 4-6 weeks). We work as a team from start to finish!

How often do parents receive training?

Parents will schedule parent meetings every 4-6 weeks in the center to meet with their assigned Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).  It is critical that each child’s team meet to review progress and ongoing needs across environments.  This is a great time to collaborate, plan, and connect as your child’s biggest cheerleaders. At BAT we insist on parent/guardian participation, as this is the best way to generalize progress from the center to home, school and in the community.

Can you provide services outside of the center?

Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) will recommend the best environment for your child to receive services.  For some, it is our amazing state of the art autism center.  For other children, a combination of school/center, home/center, or other service options dependent upon individual needs and funding source requirements and limitations.
